Q-DEAF: Queer Deaf Empowerment and Advocacy Fellowship |
Q-DEAF is a new group at the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center: A collaboration of LGBTQ Deaf, friends, family, interpreters and allies.
Mirroring the community-based model of PFLAG, our goal is to incorporate the needs of the Deaf LGBT community while encouraging cross-cultural education, advocacy and fellowship among hearing allies.
American Sign Language (ASL) “skill shares” offer free weekly basic sign language lessons for the LGBT community. In collaboration with STEP Inc, EQCA and the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center, Q-DEAF serves to address accessibility for the Deaf community at Sacramento LGBT events. Networking with community organizers and certified interpreters to improve accessibility to Sacramento LGBT events, and increase Deaf participation in local LGBT organizations.
3rd Friday Monthly LGBT Deaf Social and peer lead support group will provide social and emotional support, safe-sex education, information and referrals for LGBT Deaf access local LGBT services.
With an emphasis on healthy body-image, active community participation, leadership development and personal/identity enrichment, Q-DEAF encourages healthy relationships while mobilizing the Sacramento LGBT Deaf Community, increasing visibility and understanding of Deaf Culture in Sacramento LGBT community.
