Men’s Discussion Group:
This Men’s group explores issues in a supportive, nonjudgmental environment. Open to all men 21 and over, this group also socializes together after its meetings.
Legal Clinic:
This clinic offers information, referrals, and legal assistance. It is a collaborative of the Legal Service of Northern CA, Protection and Advocacy Inc., and the UC Davis School of Law.
SOFFA-T (Significant Others, Families, Friends and Allies of Trans):
Significant Others, Family, Friends and Allies of Trans peer support, informational and social group for people who have relationship with someone labeled or socialized as transgender or gender variant. To provide information, education and support, in a safe and welcoming environment, with other individuals experiencing the same issues, which embraces and educates individuals who just found out or have known for some time that they Significant Other is Transgender.
20 Something’s:
This group focuses on important issues such as socializing, networking, career development, community service involvement, and just having fun.
Youth Groups:
LGBT and questioning youth gather for facilitated discussions, activities, and outside events. We cultivate positive mental health techniques that enable self help, social networking, healthy activities, and positive messages about gender, sexual orientation, self-worth, and personal dignity.
Lavender Angels:
The lavender Angels is a community service program from the Gay and Lesbian Community Center and the Midtown business Association. Volunteer members provide safety assistance, first aid, area direction and information to visitors, citizens, and patrons in the Lavender Heights Area. Highly recognizable in their purple uniforms, Lavender Angels walk midtown routes on weekends and during special events.
Women’s Group:
A group open to all self-identified women who are looking to grow emotionally and open to support other women in the growth process. This group emphasizes on the interpersonal process, gaining awareness of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, acquiring and enhancing healthy coping strategies, sharing constructive feedback focused in the present and a commitment to personal development and growth.
Art Show: The Center participates in the Midtown Business Association’s Second Saturday Art Walk. We feature two community artists and have live music and catering for night. We host a VIP reception the Friday before the Show and have volunteer opportunities for both nights.
SIN (Strength In Numbers):
Provide safe and life affirming social network opportunities for GLBT person living with HIV and AIDS and their allies in the Great Sacramento Valley region through camaraderie, education and activities. By reaching out and supporting as many of the estimated 5,000+ GLBT persons with HIV and AIDS and their allies through free or low cost social activities, social networking media, harm reduction and stigma and discrimination education; and resources and referral services so that our members are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
Transgender Support Group:
Support group for the gender questioning and gender transitioning men and women.
CARES HIV testing:
CARES is a place of hope for thousands of people from all over the Central Valley who need testing, clinic services and counseling. Since CARES began in 1989, we’ve made incredible strides in our treatment options for people living with HIV/AIDS, our long-term financial stability, and our role as a leader in the
Sacramento community.
Lavender Library:
The Lavender Library serves the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities as a lending library and archives and as a site for cultural activities. Unique in the greater Sacramento area, it is an all-volunteer-run, donation-supported community organization with certified nonprofit status.
Coming Out Support Group:
Coming out is not always easy. Some individuals may experience challenges and difficulties when deciding to tell others about their sexuality and/or gender identity/expression. The Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Center can assist with the coming out process through our new Coming Out Support Group.
If you or someone you know is coming to terms with their sexuality or gender identity/expression, this group could be the place for you. We will focus on topics such as: understanding feelings of same gender attraction and love; examining stereotypes about lesbians, gays and bisexuals and transgender individuals as well as incorporating other important aspects of identity (i.e., race/ethnicity, religion, age) into your current self-perception, coming out to friends, family, siblings, co-workers, developing social support, and learning about the LGBT community.
