Sacramento Valley Veterans (SVV) is the local chapter of American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER), a nationwide organization comprised of LGBT veterans and servicemembers dedicated to full and equal rights and equitable treatment for all present and past members of the U.S. Armed Forces. SVV works to engage the Sacramento Valley through activism, adovacy, and outreach.

Servicemembers United is a non-partisan and non-profit organization whose primary goals are 1) to engage in education and advocacy on issues affecting gay and lesbian troops and veterans; 2) to serve as an associational organization for the gay and lesbian military, veteran, and defense community; 3) to represent the voice of Iraq/Afghanistan-era gay and lesbian troops and veterans; and 4) to forward and inform public debate on the U.S. military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy.

SWAN supports, defends, and empowers today’s servicewomen and women veterans of all eras, through groundbreaking advocacy initiatives and innovative, healing community programs. SWAN also has a LGBT Helpline for veterans and military.
Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA)

Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) is a 501 (c) 3 organization that acts proactively with other concerned gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) organizations to ensure that transgender veterans will receive appropriate care for their medical conditions in accordance with the Veterans Health Administration’s Customer Service Standards promise to “treat you with courtesy and dignity . . . as the first class citizen that you are.” Further, TAVA will help in educating the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the Department of Defense (DoD) on issues regarding fair and equal treatment of transgender and transsexual individuals. Also, TAVA will help the general transgender community when deemed appropriate.

The Mehadi Foundation (pronounced “meh-húh-DEE”) is a non-profit foundation with two missions. The first is to serve as a support network providing assistance to United States Armed Forces Veterans who were enlisted during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Our intention is to reach out especially to veterans who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and those who self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, or who suffer from other addictive patterns. The Mehadi foundation makes a special effort to reach out to members of the LGBTQ community who served under the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” statute.
