Art of Ken Bloom

... is what artist Ken Bloom says when asked about where the ideas for his drawings come from. "I usually have an image in my head based on something I've seen or dreamt, and as the drawing progresses, it changes based on the needs of the composition and what my desires are." Bloom's graphite figurative drawings are reminiscent of drawings done by Diego Rivera but with a modern twist. You'll see cars, trucks, light poles and modern buildings in the backgrounds of these moody pieces, which are delicately done with incredible detail. "I don't use models or photographs for reference because I feel it constrains the possiibilities and doesn't allow for open creativity." These drawings are well crafted yet leave plenty of room for interpretation by the viewer, which is important, making the pictures interesting and enjoyable for many years.

Something Fabulous

Something Fabulous is a retail gift boutique and gallery located on the lower level of the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center, featuring gifts, art items, jewelry and furniture from around the world, including many antiques, one-of-a-kind items or items found nowhere else in the Greater Sacramento region.

The shop’s unusual inventory includes bronze pieces from Japan, wood panels from China, kilims and pillows from Bulgaria, jewelry from France, baskets from Africa, art from Brazil, wooden carvings from Mexico, and much more. During the holiday season, Something Fabulous also carries a wide variety of Christmas ornaments from various countries, Mark Roberts, Department 56 and Kurt Adler, even rainbow-hued trees and wreaths.

Proceeds from Something Fabulous support the programs and services of the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center.
