A group of LGBTQ+ senior individuals interested in living up to their full potential

Golden Grounds Vision:
A group of senior LGBTQ+ individuals committed to meeting regularly for the sole purpose of enriching the group through sharing insights, experiences, and wisdom from what we’re doing presently with our lives and what we’ve done during our lifetimes.

We seniors were here to witness two (at least) major milestones in our rainbow history: on the upside the Stonewall riots of 1969 (the hallmark in our demands for respect, dignity, and equality), and on the downside the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the late 70s. It doesn’t get more dramatic than that in our history, with perhaps in addition the Supreme Court’s ruling in favor of marriage equality last year. Would anyone in our age group ever have guessed that would happen in our lifetimes?

There is an opportunity to fill a much needed niche in the elder LGBTQ+ community. That is a place for support and encouragement in making the rest of elder LGBTQ+ lives the best they can be, to create a circle of friends who want the best for themselves and their peers. We come together to view life through sharing as an exploratory journey to wholeness with unlimited possibilities for experiencing joy and happiness along the way.

We’ll all participate in determining topics of conversation for each meeting, which will be known in advance. Here are a few suggestions that corroborate the above vision statement:

  • What do you want to do with the rest of your life?
  • Where have you always wanted to travel to and why?
  • What are your “secrets” for a long and/or healthy life?
  • Where do you stand with spirituality, or not?
  • What’s on your bucket list if you have one?
  • What’s philosophies do you embrace that pertain to living your life?
  • Who is or was the love of your life and why?

Golden Grounds Mission:
To create a dynamic senior LGBTQ+ group committed to the support and empowerment of its members through open, positive, authentic sharing and discussion of member life experiences, practices, knowledge, and wisdom.
