Big Changes Are Underway!

Sacramento LGBT Community Center — Temporary Relocation FAQ

To keep services running while our Lavender Heights headquarters undergoes a full renovation, the Center is moving to a temporary location at 2031 K Street. Construction begins mid‑March 2026 and is expected to take about seven months, with a grand reopening in fall 2026.

Why is the Center moving now?

We’re renovating our headquarters at 1015 20th Street to improve accessibility, expand confidential service rooms, add modern community spaces and a gallery, upgrade building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, windows/doors), and enhance safety and security. These changes let us serve more people with dignity, privacy, and efficiency for decades to come.

Where is the temporary location?

2031 K Street — just around the corner in Lavender Heights (former home of 3Fold Communications / McMartin Realty).

How long will you be at 2031 K Street?

We will operate from the temporary site for the duration of construction (approximately seven months). We anticipate returning to our renovated headquarters in fall 2026.

What services will be available during the renovation?

All core programs continue at the temporary location: Community Resource Navigation (including crime victim services and legal aid); Youth & Family Services (QSpot dropin 7 days/week, groups, respite, enrichment); Mental Health Services (support groups, counseling, medicationforaddictiontreatment navigation); Sexual Health Services (STI/HIV testing, PrEP navigation, harm reduction, prevention); Employment Services (career counseling, job readiness workshops, job fairs, employer training); Housing Services (case management, housing navigation, access to offsite emergency shelter and transitional housing for 18–24 yearolds); Outreach & Training Institute (LGBTQ+ cultural humility and equity training); and limited Community Meeting Space (priority to Center programs; rentals as capacity allows).

What will be different or limited at the temporary site?

There is no onsite parking (street and paid lots are nearby). Showers and laundry for youth will not be available onsite during renovation. Adult Respite will operate offsite with a new weekly schedule (see below). Meeting and event spaces have limited capacity and may not be fully soundattenuated.

Will your open hours change?

Public hours are planned to continue 7 days/week — Mon–Thu 10 a.m.–8 p.m.; Fri–Sun 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

Minor adjustments may occur after movein as we normalize operations.

How is the renovation and temporary space funded?

Our Welcome Home capital campaign (completed in 2024) and public grants enabled us to acquire the 1015 20th Street building. Renovation costs are being covered by private donors through a new $1.5M Renovation & Resiliency Fund, while the temporary space is funded within existing operating and program budgets. Capital funds are designated for facilities and cannot be redirected to program operations.

Access, Parking & Contact

2031 K Street is wheelchair accessible with singleuser restrooms. Street and paid parking are nearby. For assistance, call (916) 4420185 or email info@saccenter.org
