The Key is Prevention

The Key is Prevention

You are really stepping it up this holiday season. We are now just halfway to meeting our biggest goal to date. To think that our stretch goal five years ago was to raise $15,000 is unfathomable. What a reflection of your commitment to our agency and more importantly, to our LGBTQ+ community members in need.

We made history last spring by raising over $115,000+ in 24 hours. Can we make history again by exceeding our year-end campaign goal and raising the remaining $75k left? As the Deputy Chief Program Officer I oversee our adult, youth, and family services in addition to our housing programs. Did you know that we also provide prevention and intervention services? Learn more about this work with a recent client, Reyna.

Reyna is a senior at Sacramento State University. She unfortunately fell behind on her rent, was given an eviction notice, and reached out to the Prevention and Intervention team. We were able to talk to her property management and come to an agreement that if the balance was paid in full, they would drop the eviction. The management informed us we had till the end of the week or it might be too late. Reyna worked with her apartment to submit all required documents for financial assistance. We helped her upload her documents, complete the forms, and get Reyna a check within a few days. Together, we created a detailed budget plan so that she has the tools to maintain her rent moving forward. Thanks to the program, Reyna evaded getting an eviction on her record and is in good terms with her property management.

More people are turning to the Center in desperate need of assistance than ever before and our next moves are critical. As we lead in the best way we can, we also acknowledge that the journey will be challenging.  Please join us to help our community members  like Reyna thrive.
