Sacramento LGBT Community Center Center Condemns Executive Order Policies Attacking LGBTQ+ and Immigrant Communities

The Sacramento LGBT Community Center is deeply troubled by the recent Executive Order that denies recognition of gender identities beyond the binary of male and female sex assigned at birth. This action attempts to erase the existence and human rights of transgender and non-binary individuals, creating significant barriers to travel, healthcare access, and basic acknowledgment of identity. Additional orders attacking the rights of immigrants and asylum seekers, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and protections against sex discrimination further threaten the well-being of vulnerable LGBTQ+ populations.

While the constitutionality of these orders is questionable and we will resist implementation of every harmful policy, they have already sparked fear and anxiety among community members concerned about their safety and access to critical resources like healthcare, housing, and economic opportunity. Despite these challenges, we want to reassure our community: the Center’s doors remain open, and our resolve to serve and uplift our diverse LGBTQ+ community remains unshaken.

We will continue to provide the life-saving services our community depends on–mental health care, housing assistance, legal advocacy, affirming healthcare access, employment support, and tailored resources for LGBTQ+ immigrants, asylum seekers, youth, seniors, the unhoused, and all those who make our community vibrant and diverse.

Beyond services, we stand firm as advocates for equity and justice. Finding strength in unity, we will challenge every injustice that threatens our community, working alongside national and state partners to combat misinformation and advance inclusion. Now more than ever, we urge our allies to support local LGBTQ+ organizations like the Sacramento LGBT Community Center, countering discriminatory actions with resources, advocacy, and love.

We are Sacramento strong. Together, we will endure. Together, we will create a region and a country where all LGBTQ+ people can thrive.
