Our Outreach and Training Institute is emerging as one of the region’s best professional development centers and a great resource for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) training. Using the lived experience of our trainers and their thought leadership in their respective fields, we are able to develop curricula that builds staff understanding of DEI concepts and helps them apply it to their work. The best results come when an organization brings us on for a long series of trainings that encompass and support the mission and vision of their organization.

Our work with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a fantastic example of this. We sat down with IRC’s leaders to discuss what the needs of the organization are and how the Sacramento LGBT Community Center’s Outreach and Training Institute could support them. Over the course of 2 months we’ve trained their staff not just on LGBTQ+ concepts, but also on things like Settler Colonialism and Decolonization, Individual Advocacy and Storytelling, and Intersectionality and Systems of Oppression. We’ve helped build up a skillset within their staff that will hopefully help them in their organization’s efforts and ensure they provide the best services to their clients.
